BASSANO DEL GRAPPA

This is going to be a quick. Two weekends ago PJ and I decided to take a quick day trip and we found a medieval town called Bassano del Grappa. It is about 40 minutes north of Vicenza and is nestles in the Venetian Prealps.

It has been raining for what seems like 60 days straight, so any chance we get when it isn’t raining we take and that Sunday the rain held off until mid afternoon. It is a really nice town with beautiful views of the mountains from pretty much any angle. There are a lot of nice shops and delicious places to eat, as well as a lot of grappa and ceramic shops. They seem to have some Austrian influenced food places, which was a nice change from what we have been eating.

This trip included Reesey seeing it was a quick car ride, and I think she enjoyed her day. It was Sunday and it was Easter so most places were closed until the afternoon, so it was easy to get around with her sniffing every nook and cranny. There is also a really nice pedestrian walkway along the Brenta River that we will have to walk once the weather gets a little better.

The city is known for Alpini Bridge, a large wooden pontoon bridge that was designed by Andrea Palladio. The bridge had been destroyed several times since 1569 but acts as the main entrance bridge into the city. Other notable Americans that spent a lot of time there are Ernest Hemingway and Scott Fitzgerald.
