GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, GERMANY

After our time in Munich, PJ and I headed to the Garmisch area. This is where we celebrated my big 28! There is a military hotel there, but after looking at the prices and feeling that while in Germany we should probably not stay in little America, we decided to stay at the Eibsee hotel. The hotel is gorgeous, sitting on the edge of Lake Eibsee and at the base of the Zugspitze, Germanys highest mountain. It is perfect for both winter and summer vacations and has a spa, pool, and delicious restaurants. The train into the Garmisch area runs right to the hotel area as well.

We spent most of the time there relaxing and eating, we even tried a soup made with pheasant broth and duck liver. It was actually pretty good, as long as you don't imagine what you are actually eating.

Our last day was spent checking out the area. Garmisch is a cute small town with many small shops and cafes. Of course I had a pretzel! We were leaving around 1 so we were not able to get to Neuschwanstein Castle on this trip, but is a must do before we leave Europe!

We did have time to take a cable car to the top of Alpspitze, which was beautiful and had an interesting viewing platform [it reminded me of the images of the Norway viewing platforms]. Zugspitze also has a cable car, but is much more expensive than Alpspitze [over 40 euro a person]. I would like to do it when we go back, but make it a day trip to the top.
