DOZZA, ITALIA
March 29
I feel like Dozza was our little secret find even though it is known by many. After heading to the coast of Ravenna, PJ and I headed to the small village that is considered one of the 100 'most beautiful villages in Italy'. The town is famous for its Biennale di Muro Dipinto, where every two years artists from Italy and all over the world come to paint murals on the historic walls and houses. The next event will take place the third week in September of 2015! The painting event began in 1960 and it changed the ordinary small village into a beautiful open air gallery. The city usually restores the murals every few years.
There are over one hundred works and even some prestigious artists have contributed to the mix.
The city also hosts a wine festival and is home to the famous fortress, the Rocca Sforzesca. The fortress was reconstructed in the 15th century on the ruins of the ancient Bolognese fortress. It was again transformed at the end of the 16th century where the Malvezzi-Campeggi family lived until 1960.
