ZAMBRONE, ITALIA [CALABRIA]

August 28-31, 2015
Our next stop after Pizzo was to a gorgeous beach that I found online while researching the area. The beautiful find is Spiaggia Paradiso del Sub, on the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Vibo Valentia, and it is amazing. It is a little treasure that isn't the easiest to find unless you know what you are looking for.

First, drive to the town of Zambrone and find the train station. Walk along the platform, cross at the designated area and find the opening to a dirt/rock path. From there, follow the path through the brush to the staircase which leads down the side of a cliff. After that, you will reach paradise. We parked along the road near the cafe at the station and had no issues. It took us a bit of people watching to find the path, but once we did it was easy [Hint: follow the people with the coolers and umbrellas]. Also, bring everything you need for the day as there are no cafes or rental stands and to climb back up is quite the chore.

The water is crystal clear and it is an amazing shade of blue. A white sandy beach was a great find, as a lot of the beaches that we have been to have been filled with soft pebbles [also nice]. We did not intend to stay too long as we had a few stops for the day, but we managed to hang out and relax for a bit. The water was the perfect temperature and the views are fantastic. It was about mid day and while it was busy, it wasn't packed; although we passed many people arriving as we were leaving. The hike back up was rough, the temperature was around 100 degrees F, but we took it slow and steady.

If you are in the area for an extended period of time, or have less planned during a weekend I would recommend relaxing here all day. We thought that we might go back on our last day, but we opted for a ferry ride to the islands instead, both are great options!
