OKTOBERFEST, MUNCHEN, DEUTSCHLAND [PART 1]

September 25-28, 2015
It only took us three years of living in Italy to make it up to Munich for Oktoberfest. We met up with our travel companion, Zach, and embarked on our third trip together. Oktoberfest started in 1810 as a lead up to the wedding of Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese and runs from mid September to the beginning of October.

We stayed in an AirBnB in Brannenburg and decided to take the train into Munich instead of paying the exorbitantly high prices in Munich center. Brannenburg is also in close proximity to Rosenheim, which was a nice area to explore while we waited for Zach's train to arrive [a difficult arrival from Salzburg with the current refugee crisis happening]. PJ and I had a drink in the square and people watched until the train arrived, then we returned for lunch at Gasthaus sum Stockhammer before checking into our AirBnB. The Vienna schnitzel is delicious!!

After checking in we headed into Munich. There were many train delays and some cancellations due to the border issues, but we made it just in time to head to dinner with friends who happened to also be in town to celebrate Oktoberfest. [Try Zum Alten Markt.]

The next morning we got up early to head into the Münchner Oktoberfest fairgrounds. Luckily we had some friends who arrived even earlier [thanks Sean!!] and snagged us a large table that was reserved for a later time. We settled into the Paulaner tent and enjoyed the music, food, people, drinks and atmosphere.

Around the time that everyone in the tent was starting to sway while they walked, aka after enough beer [or sparkling water in my case] was consumed, we heeded out to try out some rides, walk the fairground, and to find some wine. We also stumbled on some delicious schnitzel, spaetzle, sauerkraut, bratwurst and curley fries, which were all much needed.

Zicke, zacke, zicke, zacke, hoi, hoi, hoi,
Prosit!

After Oktoberfest we headed into the center for a brief walk before heading back to the rental house.
