PJ and I were ready for a beach day mixed with a little
sightseeing. We found a town that is only an hour east of us called Chioggia and decided to take a
day trip. Some people, because of its
similar canal system and bridges, consider it a “Little Venice”. It is a
fishing port with a main axial street that encompasses most of its sights and
restaurants.
We began the day in Sottomarina, which is a beach area just
outside of the main town area facing the Adriatic Sea. It seems like it is still early in the season because they were still setting up the cafes, umbrella
stands, and other beach activities along the water. The beach needs to be cleaned up
a bit from the winter months, but the water wasn't bad. There are water parks,
mini golf holes, volleyball courts, restaurants, cafes, arcades, and small
amusement part rides along the beachfront. There are also a lot of camping areas.

Around 12:30 the clouds starting to linger so we headed to
the main area of Chioggia for some lunch and to see some sights. Chioggia is one of the largest fishing ports on the Adriatic and supposedly has a great fish market. The market only happens during the week, so unfortunately we were not able to check that out.
