STRADA DELLE 52 GALLERIE AL MONTE PASUBIO

We finally did it!! A few months ago PJ, Reesey, and I tried to climb Strada delle 52 Gallerie [52 tunnels], but sadly it started to rain at tunnel 2, so we turned around. About a month ago we successfully managed to climb to the top!! It took us a little under 2 ½ hours to get to the top and around 2 hours to get down. Minus some head bumps [ahem…PJ] we did it unscathed!

A little background...52 tunnels is a "road" built in 1917 by the Italian Army during WWI on Monte Pasubio in the Veneto region of Italy. The trail is divided into 52 tunnels that were excavated from the existing rocks and is 6,555 meters long [4 miles]. The highest point of the trail is 2,000 meters [6,562 ft] located at Porte del Pasubio. The road is at a 22% incline and was a good workout, although Reesey did not seem to be phased in the least.

It was a great hike and the tunnels were fun to meander through [be sure to bring a flashlight!]. This time around it was not raining, but we were socked in for most of the trip so we were not able to see the GORGEOUS views along the way. I suppose we will have to do it again...

Reesey met a cow
