ITALIAN CHRISTMAS MARKETS

Christmas markets are HUGE all around Europe, especially in Germany, but Italy has some beautiful ones as well. Mercatino di Natale are set up all over Italy in both small and large cities and towns and they attract both locals and tourists alike. This year, we were able to visit markets in Trento, Bolzano, and Arco, although there are many markets that are closer to Vicenza, such as in Verona and Bologna.

TRENTO

Trento is considered to be one of the best Christmas markets, especially since it is located in a beautiful mountain setting. The huts are open from the end of November to the end of December and they sell things such as crafts, cheese, cakes, breads, ornaments, toys, gourmet specialities, and of course, vin brule and parampampoli! There are also huts where you can try strudel, polenta brustolada [grilled polenta], tortel di palate [potato cake] and other options from the Trentino and Tyrol regions

BOLZANO

Bolzano was our second market of the Christmas season. It is the largest Christmas market in Italy and is open for around a month. They city is also located in a mountainous area with 360 degrees of beautiful mountain views. There are over 80 Christmas stalls throughout the downtown, but if you go when it is also their food market you will find extra market stalls that line the side streets with delicious meats, cheeses, and other local products. We happened to go on this particular type of day and Reesey was in scent heaven!

After checking out the market we found some time to explore a little of the area, stopping at Il Monumento alla Vittoria and Runkelstein Castle.
