ENEGO, ITALY [snowshoeing]

The dolomites are a great place to visit throughout the year, especially in the winter if you are a fan of skiing, snowshoeing and all things snow related. It was winter in Italia, but snow hadn't fallen in Vicenza so PJ and I decided to take to the mountains to break in our new snowshoes. Tucked away in a town called Enego are several cross country and snowshoeing trails. (base refuge called rifugio Valmaron) We decided to load up the car, Reesey included, and head north towards Asiago.

Our drive through the snow!

Yikes!

There were 2 trails which lead to small rifugi. We opted to take the longer trail to rifugio barricata, instead of rifugio marcesina so that we could check out more of the landscape. Also, the woman who sold us the tickets said that Barricata had better food. I can't compare, but Barricata did have some tasty food and wine, especially after a 5.5 kilometer hike one way in snowshoes.

Most of the other trail users were German, Austrian, or Italian. They seemed to find my tank top amusing, but it still felt so hot outside to me.

The whole trail was about 11 km there and back (approx 6.8 miles) and by the end, Reesey was pooped!
