CARNEVALE DI VENEZIA 2015

It was our 3rd Carnevale in Italy and we did not want to miss it. We decided to try something new and instead of going during the day and watching the costume parade and shows we decided to go at night and check out Carnival Arsenal Nights. According to the website it was filled with "magic, theater, music and a sensational fireworks display on the water giving everything a carnival atmosphere" I would say it was a good show, minus the schedule being a little different from what the website stated. We typically take the train into the city but, due to a train strike, we decided to drive. I actually think that driving was easier for an event like this, and we were able to leave much later than the trains allow.

We started our afternoon by finding a new mask at Ca' Macana. It is one of the oldest mask making workshops in Venice and is known for its tradition. They make handmade masks the same way that the Venetian artisans would make them 800 years ago. Their masks have been featured in movies and in the Vienna Opera House

After grabbing a Carnevale drink and meandering through a maze of venetian streets we finally came across the metal walkway along the arsenal. A small crowd was already at the location waiting for the festivities to begin.

Food and drink stations were along the Riva dell Maravegie as well as the 'Il signore del baccalà' theatrical performance and film. Fireworks exploded over the water while we waited for the 'Molto Tesa' vertical dance performance and concert.
