AROUND ITALY WITH THE TELLIERS [VERONA,VENEZIA,BARDOLINO…]

October 2015
October was a busy months and it started out with some visitors from back home. Jerry, Jenna and Ann traveled from RI to IT to take in the Italian, Spanish and Portuguese sights.

They were heading to Roma later in the trip so we hung out around the northern parts during the beginning and end of their stay. On top of Verona, Venezia and Bardolino, we also visited Sirmione, Bassano del Grappa, Marostica, Padova, Parma, the delicious Le Bignele, Bonomini, and a few other smaller locations [although I do not have photos from all locations].

The first night that they were in town we whisked them to Verona for a calcio match. It was Hellas Verona F.C. vs A.C. Chievo Verona and it was everybody's first time watching a match in Italy. The arena was huge and very well secured so there was no moving our seats, but on the plus side we burned some calories climbing up and down the stairs.

The day after the calcio match was the Bardolino wine festival, my favorite time of the year! This is the one event that PJ and I have gone to every single year since we arrived in Italy and it is amazing. This year did not disappoint and we left with delicious wine and food in our stomachs, and some Bardolino wine to add to our collection.

We headed to Sirmione after the wine festival and grabbed some snacks, caffè and some spritz before heading to dinner [where PJ managed to hit my not yet empty wine glass into my caffè corretto and make a mess].

We also had time to visit Padova and the famous La Basilica de Santo Antonio.

We traveled to Venezia towards the end of their visit with the hope of avoiding the rain. That didn't work out so well for us, but we made the best of it. We started by walking to San Marco and checking out the famous piazza. After some exploration we caught the vaporetto a Murano. It wasn't raining yet so we were able to get in some shopping before the monsoon. Flooding was inevitable once the rain started, as the water was already about the crest the sidewalk edge. This was the moment that I learned that my fancy Sperry rain boots did not actually protect against the rain. Apparently, to my dismay, my boots which have only been worn maybe 10 times, had holes in the rubber all around the bottom seam.

We still pressed on, but we scratched off going to Burano after noticing some delays and being nervous of potentially being stranded once we got there. We headed back to the vaporetto, found ourselves a lunch spot, Osteria Antica Adelaide, which I thought was very good, and then moved on to shopping, spritz and cicchetti!

I don't have much from the rest of the Italian places but here's what I have. Also, if in Parma, eat at Trattoria Dei Corrieri. I don't have photos from the restaurant, but it was such a delicious meal!
